Windy is lusting for cloak
Default 5 kids, my first avid thumb sucker

Bronte LOVES her thumb. It started 6 weeks ago, but she has really ramped it up. To the point her skin is getting red and irritated. I even gave in and bought a soother. I've always been anti-soother, except for the NICU soothies, but she hates those. I gave in, bought a couple of Nuks, and she's loving those too. Not as much as the thumb, but close.

Am I creating a monster. I figure taking the soother away is easier then the thumb, but she still spits out the soother and takes the thumb. My parents suggested putting honey or sugar on it , to help her take it, but don't think I'll be doing that.

So, jsut let her suck, actively pull it out, what?

Mine loved their soothers and had it til they were close to 4 so I"m not one to give advice. She's just little now and if the nuk soothes her now, why not? You can also remove it in a few months.

Let her suck her thumb.

Baby #1 - Didn't take a soother or suck his thumb.
Baby #2 - LOVED her soother (sleep time only) until about 13 months.
Baby #3 (Twin 1) - Big time thumb sucker (at sleep time and for comfort when upset or tired). Self weened at about 4 1/2 - 5 years old. (I just sort of realized one night that I hadn't really seen her suck her thumb in a long while.)
Baby #4 (Twin 2) - Didn't take a soother or suck her thumb.

#1 thumb, self-wean at a year
#2 paci, self-wean at a year
#3 nothing
#4 thumb, still sucks when she thinks nobody is looking
#5 paci, had to help her, stopped at about 2 years old

I offered the paci to all of them and, as you can see, got quite a mixed bag of results.
